about
You know, something missing in our culture is the good, old, country family unit. For me, this started with me dad teaching me how to live, love, fight, get back up, and dream big. I want to pass that on to my son, who will raise his own family someday. And this song is about that.
lyrics
He had a green John Deer tractor
that sat in the yard.
He had piles of hay underneath the
red painted barn.
He had a smile that said I love you
and never cussed when work got hard.
He had a banged up Chevy that never seemed to start.
And I had him and he had me.
He gave me his Bible and taught me to read.
He said now son you can do this for yourself.
He taught me how to live, how to love
how to fight, how to lead, how to get back up,
how to love, how to dream, and how to raise a family.
So I bought a John Deer tractor
and a fifty acre farm.
I fixed up grandpa's Chevy,
and repainted that old barn.
And I dated a good woman,
we were married under the stars.
Life was moving quickly, two pink lines
and a baby boy.
And I had him and he had me.
I gave him a Bible and taught him to read.
I said now son you can do this for yourself.
I taught him how to live, how to love
how to fight, how to lead, how to get back up,
how to love, how to dream, and how to raise a family.
And daddy said, and now I'm saying it to you son,
Keep your chin up boy, life is hard but worth the fight.
Buy some land and a truck you can fix up...
Praise God for a woman you can love.
And I had him and he had me.
He showed me his Bible and told me he'd read it.
He said now dad I can do this for myself.
He showed me he could live and love and fight and lead
and get back up and love and dream... and raise a family.
How to raise a family.
How to raise a family.
