about

This song was written for my Granddad, who passed away in 2021.

lyrics

I walk down to the country store
I find a dollar item rack with the goodbye post cards
I see a photo of a cowboy
In the middle of the stack
With these letters on the back

It says, "Goodbye cowboy
I wish you the best,
don't forget your hat and your boots.
You are going to need them
where you're at, out in the wild, wild open blue."

I grab the card and then I take it home
I put my name on the back with a thirty-eight cent stamp
I don't know where I should send it to
So I address it to Heaven and hope it doesn't get sent back

It says, "Goodbye cowboy
I wish you the best,
don't forget your hat and your boots.
You are going to need them
where you're at, out in the wild, wild open blue."

And when you wake up on the other side
Take the time, take the time
to check the mail
and you will find a card from this side of eternity
and it will read...
